Common problems

What usually goes wrong

Mushy base

What you see: Leaves go soft and yellow at soil level
What it usually means: Overwatering — the most common way this plant dies. Let it dry out completely and cut away any rot.

Wrinkled leaves

What you see: Leaves look thin and creased
What it usually means: Underwatered, which takes months to reach. Water thoroughly and it recovers.

Leaves falling outward

What you see: The rosette opens and flops
What it usually means: Usually too little light, sometimes too large a pot.
